Old age, tooth decay, or trauma, no matter what the reason for your tooth loss is, there are ways you can get your smile back. Dentures are one of the most popular and straightforward dental procedures that can improve your smile and oral health.

At Sun-Park Dental in Rocklin, California, Dr. Minh Nguyen, with his expertise, can provide you with the best dental solutions that fit your needs completely. In this blog, we’re looking at everything you should know about dentures.

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are removable prosthetic appliances consisting of artificial teeth and gums that replace missing natural teeth. They’re custom-designed to look and feel natural and fit your unique mouth structure, so you can eat, drink, and smile freely.

Dentures are generally made of acrylic resin and can provide maximum longevity and comfort.

When Do You Need Dentures?

Tooth loss can happen for any number of reasons - accidents, tooth decay or diseases, or old age. With dentures, you can replace your missing teeth and maintain the structure of your mouth.

What Are the Different Types of Dentures?

Generally, dentures are classified into two categories - partial and full dentures. Based on your needs, Dr. Minh Nguyen at Sun-Park Dental will suggest the solution that is right for you.

  • Partial Dentures

When you are missing one or several teeth, dentures are a viable option for tooth replacement. Partial dentures are custom-fitted to your gum line, where they will be placed and attached to your existing natural teeth with metal clasps.

If your adjacent natural teeth are not strong enough to give necessary support to the dentures, Dr. Nguyen can fit them with crowns.

  • Full Dentures

Full or complete dentures are used for replacing entire sets of teeth, from the upper and lower jaw. They are suitable for patients who have lost all of their teeth or don’t have any healthy teeth remaining. Any remaining damaged teeth will be removed before placing complete dentures.

Full dentures come in complete sets for the upper and lower jaw, and are attached to your jaw with suction or adhesives. Since they’re removable, they are easy to clean and allow you to maintain proper oral hygiene.

Dentures typically last between 7 and 10 years and can last even longer with proper care and maintenance. If you are missing one or more teeth, getting dentures is an affordable and comfortable solution to restore your oral functionality.
